Google announces Chrome Beta for Android's availability in the Philippines

The beta mobile version of Google’s Chrome browser is now available for Android users in the Philippines.

Announced last Wednesday, April 18, 2012, Google made the Chrome Beta for Android available in the country following its first released in February for a limited number of countries. The mobile browser can be downloaded in any territory that has access to the Google Play Shop formerly known as the Android Market. Compatibility of the said browser is still limited to Android phones running in the Ice Cream Sandwich Android mobile operating system.

The Chrome for Android browser works similar with its desktop counterpart. It has features, however, that makes both desktop and mobile versions connected and integrated.

Google said that the “Chrome for Android also features seamless sign-in and sync so you can take personalized web browsing experience wherever, across devices.”

Features of the new beta version include its ability to switch versions of a website from mobile to desktop; the automatic detection of phone numbers and email addresses on webpages so users can easily be clicked and dialed directly using their Android phones or tablets; the ability to add bookmarks on the home screen for quick access; and the addition of country-specific default search engines.

Old features from the initial release are still available such as the syncing of tabs from desktop to mobile version and the automatic syncing of bookmarks from the desktop version.

“We reimagined tabs so they fit just as naturally on a small-screen phone as they do on a larger screen tablet,” Google said. “You can flip or swipe between an unlimited number of tabs using intuitive gestures, as if you’re holding a deck of cards in the palm of your hands, each one a new window to the web.”

Just like any of the Google-powered services, users need to sign-in to their Google accounts to maximize all the features of the Chrome Beta for Android browser.
